Head of Credit and Trading - Latin America

Mario Cortés is the Latin American head of credit and trading. Based in Santiago, Chile, Cortés leads a team of 16 people including the research team based in Santiago plus the trading desks in Chile and Mexico. He oversees a portfolio in several asset classes across Latin America, including fixed income, structured finance, banks and infrastructure. Overall, the regional office manages credits in countries such as Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Panama and Uruguay.

Before assuming his current role, Cortés had direct oversight for a LatAm corporates fixed income portfolio worth more than $3 billion in various industries including retail, oil and gas, pulp and paper, utilities, metals and mining and several LatAm conglomerates. From 2006 to 2012, Cortés also held primary responsibility for MetLife's private equity portfolio in Latin America, being a member of the Advisory Committee of several Latin American funds.

Cortés joined MetLife in 2006 from BankBoston Chile. From 1999 through 2004, Cortés held different responsibilities at BankBoston, where he most recently was a senior relationship manager for global corporate investment banking from 2004 to 2006, covering mostly Chilean conglomerates.

Cortés holds a degree in business administration and a Masters in finance from the Adolfo Ibañez University.
